Flash Comics #1 (1940)
Flash Comics #1 was the issue that changed everything. In 1940, DC Entertainment introduced the world to the fastest man alive, the Flash, in a thrilling debut crafted by Gardner Fox and Harry Lampert. In this comic, University researcher Jay Garrick discovered he possessed incredible speed after inhaling the fumes of "hard water," leading him to become a masked hero adorned with a striking winged helmet. Unlike other superheroes, Jay shared his true identity with his beloved girlfriend, Joan Williams. The issue also features the origin story of Hawkman, with his hawk's head helmet and winged harness that allowed him to take to the skies. In a story drawn by Dennis Neville, antiquities collector Carter Hall realized he was the reincarnation of Prince Khufu of ancient Egypt, embarking on a mission to find his lost love, Shiera, while battling his greatest foe, Hath-Set. Lastly, Flash Comics introduced Johnny Thunder, a humorous character who hailed from a far-off land and had the power to summon an all-powerful Thunderbolt.
